The Award-Winning Oregon Sinfonietta Performs Free Classical Music for the Greater Portland Community

The Oregon Sinfonietta, now in its 51st season and conducted by Dr. Donald L. Appert, is a full symphony orchestra of roughly 70 members that draws together community musicians from the greater Portland metro area. Throughout the years, the Oregon Sinfonietta has offered a superb selection of classical music, including performances by world-class professional soloists. Both the orchestra and Dr. Appert have been winners and frequent finalists of The American Prize, a set of annual nonprofit national competitions in performing arts and orchestral programming.

The orchestra performs four concerts per season at the Sunnyside Seventh-day Adventist Church in SE Portland. Although donations are always welcome, there is no charge to attend.

Three concerts each season feature an outstanding young musician who has won the Sinfonietta’s annual Concerto Competition. Every winner is given the rare opportunity to perform a complete concerto with the orchestra (not just a single movement) and is awarded a $1,000 prize.
